Campus Overview

Richfield is a not-for-profit retirement community which for more than 70 years, has expanded and evolved to meet the needs of senior adults living in southwest Virginia. With our early beginnings in long-term care, today we offer a full continuum of services and settings, each reflecting our on-going commitment to individual well being and quality of life.

Our community is located on 50 beautifully landscaped acres with two lakes and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. This tranquil setting, combined with a broad range of services and accommodations, contributes to an environment where individuals become part of a secure and supportive community.  At Richfield, our goal is to provide a setting that fosters independence, wellness and security so residents may enjoy life to the fullest.

Our ability to offer a full continuum of health care services, without leaving the Richfield campus, sets us apart from many of our competitors. Rehabilitation, assisted living memory care, and long-term nursing care are all just steps away from your door.  Complimentary on-campus transportation is provided to ensure that residents are able to stay connected with friends and family should their needs change.

Healthcare and Rehab

For more than 70 years, Richfield has expanded and evolved to meet the health care needs of the southwest Virginia community.  When Jane Morgan Harris founded the Recovery & Care Center in 1934, she laid the foundation for a community that has grown to include a full continuum of services known as Richfield Retirement Community.

Richfield Recovery & Care Center is equipped to care for 315 patients, making it the third largest facility in the State of Virginia. Our facility is licensed to participate in both the Medicare and Medicaid programs, as well as various other insurance programs. We provide comprehensive nursing care ranging from a short rehabilitative stay to extended long-term care.

Our Recovery & Care Center has assembled a team of caring, knowledgeable healthcare professionals. Health care services are coordinated by professional staff and delivered by an interdisciplinary care team composed of: nursing staff, physicians, social workers, life enrichment staff, a registered dietician, physical, occupational and speech therapists and administration.

Working as a team, our goal is to nurture the needs and spirit of each individual that we serve.

In addition to long term nursing care, the Recovery & Care Center offers these specialized programs of care:

  • Progressive Rehab Program
Richfield’s Progressive Rehab Program provides intensive, comprehensive rehabilitation services to promote physical healing and wellness. Our goal is simple . . . to help you return to your home . . . your activities . . . your life.

In this special environment, it is our desire that patients will become inspired to accomplish their goals and enjoy a renewed quality of life.
  • Memory Care Program
For residents living with memory impairment, we offer a program of care that is nurturing, safe and comfortable. Our personalized program of care utilizes our specially trained therapists and care giving staff to evaluate and establish care routines for each individual’s specific level of need. This unit includes a dedicated Life Enrichment Coordinator, home-style dining and a family lounge.

Additional Amenities Include:

  1. The Goose & Gander Café is available to residents who want to enjoy meals with family, friends or on their own.
  2. The Nifty Niche Gift Shop is located on the main floor for the enjoyment of residents and their families.

Vacation and Recovery Program

Richfield Retirement Community offers short-term, temporary care options through our Vacation and Recovery Stay Program.  This program, available in all three of our assisted living facilities, is ideal for:

  • Family Members who need to take a break from their everyday responsibilities as caregivers. Our program affords family members the opportunity to vacation, travel, deal with business or personal affairs, or simply take a needed rest from the stress and strain of round-the-clock caregiving.
  • Patients who have completed a hospital stay or rehabilitation, but feel they would benefit from an added period of professional care before returning home.
  • Those who have undergone same day surgery or other outpatient procedures and want a day or two of rest before resuming their daily routines.
  • This program also gives prospective residents and their families the opportunity to evaluate the benefits of assisted living at Richfield before making a permanent move

Vacation/Recovery stays can be designed to meet your needs for as little as two days or for as long as a month.  The choice is yours.  If you or a loved one might benefit from temporary care, the following questions and answers will give you further insight into this program,

How does the Vacation and Recovery Program work?
Patients must be evaluated by the Richfield care team to determine individual care needs and complete the necessary paperwork prior to admission.

If the patient is recovering from subacute or short-term rehabilitation, he or she must no longer be eligible for Medicare Part A-related benefits.

Once admitted, patients are welcome to stay as long as they like. The decision is up to you.

What type of accommodations are available?
Temporary guests have their own private or semi-private room. Each room is attractively furnished and includes a private bath.  Housekeeping, linens and dining services are provided.  Three delicious meals are served daily and  snacks and beverages are always available upon request.

Are support services available?
Our assisted living facilities provide a supportive environment where staff is available round-the-clock, medications are administered, and assistance with personal care is provided.

Does this type of care qualify for coverage by Medicare or other insurance?
The Vacation and Recovery Stay Program is an affordably-priced private pay option. This means that Medicare does not cover room and board expenses.  We suggest you consult your insurance company, as some private insurance plans cover room and board expenses for assisted living. In addition, Medicare Part B or other private insurance may cover some optional services such as physical, occupational or speech therapy.
